Happy Tolkien Reading Day, friends! This is one of my favorite days of the year for many reasons and I hope you’ll find some time today to celebrate the life and works of J.R.R. Tolkien today. (If you’re reading this and wondering what in the world Tolkien Reading Day even is, you can read all about it here.) I also wrote about why today is important within the Christian community, what it meant to Tolkien, and how March 25th is a sort of bridge between our world and Middle-Earth here.

Easy Ways to Celebrate Tolkien Reading Day

  • Read | Obviously the most appropriate way to celebrate Tolkien Reading Day is to read a bit of Tolkien! I’m planning to pick up my copy of The Return of the King and read my favorite chapter, The Field of Cormallen. If you’re thinking about reading The Lord of the Rings for the first time, I shared my tips for beginners here.

  • Watch the Films | As most of us are staying home due to the coronavirus pandemic, now is a lovely time for a Lord of the Rings marathon! I believe The Two Towers and The Return of the King are available for streaming on Netflix, and all three films of the trilogy can be rented or purchased on Amazon Prime.

  • Be Social | If you’re on social media, share what you’re doing by using the hashtag #TolkienReadingDay!
